Château Bourgneuf is located on the western side of Pomerol and is generally considered exceptionally consistent in quality with good concentration and excellent ageing potential. The 2017 is a typical blend of 90% Merlot with 10% Cabernet Franc and is a superb follow-up to the brilliant 2016. It is deep, rich and concentrated with notes of dark plums, blackcurrant, earth, dark chocolate and wild herbs. Medium-bodied, silky textured and with wonderful freshness, this a wonderful release with a fine life ahead of it.

A final blend of 90% Merlot with 10% Cabernet Franc, the 2017 Bourgneuf is deep garnet-purple in color with a nose of red and black plums, cassis and black soil with hints of cigar box and wild thyme. Medium-bodied, fine-grained and refreshing in the mouth with beautiful fruit and earth layers, it finishes with a fragrant lift. - Lisa Perrotti-Brown

The 2017 Bourgneuf has really gained in density over the course of its élevage, while remaining as restrained and understated as it always is. Pliant, silky and wonderfully nuanced with lovely aromatic top notes, Bourgneuf is one the undiscovered jewels in Pomerol - and in Bordeaux more broadly. Expressive floral and savory notes add aromatic dimension but in 2017, Bourgenuf stands out for its textural depth and resonance, both of which are pronounced to a degree I have not seen previously. I would give the 2017 a few years in bottle to soften. It is such a gorgeous wine. Tasted three times.Antonio Galloni1st March 2020
