Château Bonalgue is a 9.5-hectare property located in the Pomerol appellation of Bordeaux. Its Grand Vin is a Merlot-dominant wine, with typically 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. The wine is aged for 18 months in oak, of which 50% is new. The 2020 Château Bonalgue is showing early signs of complexity, but it needs more time to fully blossom. Available in convenient half-bottles.
93 Jane Anson
A blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc, the 2020 Bonalgue is deep garnet-purple in color. It waltzes out with carefree, open-knit scents of crushed black cherries, boysenberries, and fresh plums, plus hints of rose oil, jasmine tea, and underbrush with a hint of tar. The full-bodied palate is seductively fruity, with fine-grained tannins and lovely freshness, finishing long and fragrant.Lisa Perrotti-Brown12th March 2023
92 Robert Parker
Deep purple-black in color, the 2020 Bonalgue gives up notes of prunes, blueberry compote and raspberry pie, plus hints of hoisin, incense and dusty soil. The medium to full-bodied palate is packed with ripe black fruits and loads of exotic spice accents, framed by chewy tannins and plenty of freshness, finishing with a peppery kick. - Lisa Perrotti-Brown

The 2020 Bonalgue, which comes with a modernized, embossed label, also includes a new plot of Cabernet Franc. It has a very perfumed and floral bouquet, pressed violets and iris flower, very pure with black plum and blueberry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins, fresh and tensile, nicely focused with a little chalkiness in terms of texture towards the finish. This is a classy Pomerol that deserves 4-5 years in bottle. Neal Martin8th February 2023
