Bonalgue 2014 is a red wine from the Pomerol appellation in Bordeaux, crafted from Merlot. The grapes are sourced from gravelly soils over clay, typical of the region, ensuring depth and character. The winemaking process incorporates traditional fermentation utilising indigenous yeasts, followed by ageing for 24 months in French oak barrels. This wine exhibits a structured profile with dark fruit notes and a mineral edge, characteristic of its terroir.

The 2014 Bonalgue is ripe, racy and voluptuous, all of which make it pretty hard to resist. Dark red cherry, espresso, grilled herbs, French oak and menthol caress the palate. All the elements have come together beautifully in this overt, flamboyant yet midweight Pomerol. Silky tannins add to the wine’s early and medium-term appeal. Another year or two in bottle should help the oak integrate a bit further, but this will always be in a forward, giving style. Tasted two times.Antonio Galloni1st February 2017

The 2014 Bonalgue has an intense bouquet with ripe black cherry and bilberry, a tang of iodine and sea spray, a complex set of aromatics that keeps drawing you in. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp and quite firm tannins. I appreciate its edginess and the judicious pinch of spice upon the structured and slightly rigid finish. It will benefit from another year or two in bottle. - Neal Martin
