A blend of fruit from old-vine parcels in the Franschhoek Valley, this 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon reaches 14.5% alcohol. The stony, decomposed granite soils contribute to the wine’s concentration. The 2015 vintage is among the best in the Western Cape, known for its balance of ripeness and acidity. Aged for 18 months in new French oak, it presents aromas of blackcurrants, graphite, and dried herbs. The structure reflects a classical Médoc influence, marked by firm tannins and notable length. Boekenhoutskloof, established in 1993, is recognised for its focus on quality and tradition in winemaking.

The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Franschhoek has a perfumed bouquet, very well defined with black fruit, cedar and wild mint, demonstrating more vigor than its peers, more youthfulness. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy black fruit, quite savory and gamey, pencil lead notes infusing the slightly austere and Médoc-like finish. A bit serious perhaps? Tasted blind at the 10-Year-On horizontal in London. Neal Martin29th July 2025
