Henri Boillot Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet 2014 is a full-bodied Burgundy white wine from the Grand Cru climat of Bienvenues-Bâtard Montrachet in the Côte de Beaune. Domaine Boillot traces its roots back to the 1880s, though the wines it produces are undeniably modern and approachable. Father and son Henri and Guillaume run the by the Meursault-based winery which in recent years has earned a reputation for making some of the most exciting wines in the Côte d`Or. "Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting, the 2014 Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru was the most subtle of eight wines tasted from the vineyard, but it exudes mineralité, tension and class with gorgeous oyster shell scents percolating through with time. The palate is very detailed with a fine bead of acidity, beautifully balanced with a saline tang that builds throughout and flourishes toward the finish. This is an outstanding Bâtard-Montrachet from Henri Boillot, one that comes highly recommended." Neal Martin, 2017

Father and Son

In some ways, Henri Boillot has one foot in the past and one in the present. His family domaine, which he manages with his son Guillaume, has a history dating back to the 1880s, but the wines produced from their Meursault-based winery are undeniably modern, approachable and ranked among some of the very best in the region. Alongside operating a highly successful négociant business, the Boillot family own around 14 hectares of vineyards in the Côte de Beaune including a Puligny-Montrachet Premier Cru monopole in the form of Clos de la Mouchère.

The winery don't shy away from the use of new oak and any overtly woody character is generally well balanced by ripe fruit. The Chardonnays range from citrus driven and fresher at the villages level all the way to ripe, tropical and creamy at the Grand Cru level. The reds are lighter and more elegant than they used to be with Henri's son Guillaume preferring a less extracted style of Pinot Noir.
