Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet Domaine Leflaive 1996 is a noteworthy expression from one of Burgundy`s esteemed producers. Domaine Leflaive, located in Puligny-Montrachet, spans 22 hectares and includes many Premier and Grand Cru vineyards. This outstanding vintage offers a complex profile with notes of orchard fruits, subtle oak and a touch of minerality. While less heralded than other Grands Crus, Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet is noted for its capacity to age gracefully, evolving in character over time.

Complex nutty perfume. Great sweetness and intensity in the mouth; atypically spicy for this wine. High acidity provides the fruit with superb definition, but sheer extract gives it a layered, tactile quality and tempers the acidity. Amazingly expressive for a wine so unevolved. Very long and classy on the aftertaste.

The pinnacle of Puligny-Montrachet

Founded in the 18th century, Domaine Leflaive has built a storied reputation for its commitment to biodynamic farming and exceptional craftsmanship. The estate owns 22 hectares of vineyards, including 10 hectares of Premiers Crus in Puligny-Montrachet (Les Combettes, Les Pucelles, Le Clavoillon, Les Folatières), as well as no fewer than 5 hectares of Grands Crus (Chevalier-Montrachet, Bâtard-Montrachet, Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet, and a tiny holding in Le Montrachet).

Joseph Leflaive, whose vision and dedication in the early 20th century were pivotal, transformed the domaine into a symbol of excellence. In the 1990s, Anne-Claude Leflaive introduced biodynamic practices, adhering to rigorous standards that respect the natural rhythms of the earth, promoting soil health and vine vitality without synthetic chemicals. This holistic approach results in Chardonnay wines celebrated for their purity, depth, and complexity. Each bottle reflects the rich heritage and innovative spirit that have made Domaine Leflaive a revered name among wine enthusiasts.
