Château Beychevelle 2010 is a Cabernet-dominant Fourth Growth wine from St-Julien. Classified as a 4ème Cru Classé in St-Julien in the Bordeaux classification of 1855, Beychevelle is a well-respected estate known for its distinct history linked to the Duc d`Eperon, a French naval admiral in the 16th century. The 2010 Grand Vin is a blend of 54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 38% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot. From an exceptional Médoc cellaring vintage, this wine is characterised by its pronounced structure and impeccable balance.

The 2010 Beychevelle has much more lift and black fruit on the nose compared directly with the 2009. Licorice and violet scents, especially the former, emerge with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with a lightly spiced entry. Huge structure, dense and tannic, powerful with an almost burly finish. You might argue that this lacks a bit of finesse, but it has a sense of audacity uncommon in this Saint-Julien. Tasted at the Beychevelle vertical at the property.
92 Robert Parker
The 2014 Beychevelle has a very comely, pure bouquet with heightened dark cherry, blackcurrant and wilted violet scents rendering it almost more Margaux-like than Saint Julien. The palate is medium-bodied, svelte in texture with light tannin. It is a nimble Beychevelle, light on its feet with wonderful freshness and tension towards the finish. This is a very well-crafted wine from Philippe Blanc and his team, a St. Julien that is nimble on its toes. - Neal Martin

Light nose. Sweet start. A little reminiscent of the Haut-Médocs I have just been tasting. Not one of the most energetic or convincing St-Juliens though perfectly serviceable. Just slightly hollow. (JR)
