The 1999 Château Beychevelle Gran Vin displays a distinctive bouquet of stewed red fruits, undergrowth and white truffles. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied and well-structured. Tart, almost peppery, and with notes of black cherries. Tannins are softened and very pleasant. There is a distinctive, herbal edge to the bright, almost lean, red berry finish.

Vinous
The 1999 Beychevelle has a mature nose with a touch more freshness and, in my mind, fewer brettanomyces than the 1997, although there is still a bit of leather coming through. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, rustic compared to recent vintage with a slightly bitter finish. This 1999 is not going to go anywhere, so pop 'n pour soon. Tasted at the Beychevelle vertical at the property.Neal Martin1st March 2023

A Classic Saint Julien Classed Growth
Reflecting the elegance and finesse of Saint Julien's finest terroirs, fourth growth Château Beychevelle spans 90ha and is renowned for its graceful and complex first wine, made from the best plots in the vineyard and that boasts a wonderful capacity for aging.
A second wine, Amiral de Beychevelle, is also made from young vines. The estate is planted to predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, together with smaller percentages of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Expect supple, balanced wines with tremendous aromatic richness.
