Bevan Cellars McGah Cabernet Sauvignon 2012 is a Rutherford red from a parcel on the eastern edge of the appellation where the soils are deep and gravelly. This release underwent maturation in 100% new French oak, providing a structural frame for notes of blackberry jam, violets, mint and graphite. The palate is voluptuously textured, with the silky tannins and floral lift that define the McGah vineyard. It captures the opulence of a classic Napa year while maintaining an expressive inner perfume. Current assessments from early 2026 suggest this wine is in a prime drinking window, as the initially exuberant oak has now seamlessly integrated into a complex, savoury profile.

Dark raspberry jam, rose petals, mint and spices emerge from the Bevan Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon McGah, a wine stands out in this range for its expressive inner perfume, silky tannins and floral, lifted style. There is plenty of richness in the glass, but the McGah remains the most aromatically expressive and radiant of these Cabernets. If I owned them all, the McGah is probably the wine I would drink first, as it is the most open and giving today. Antonio Galloni1st January 2015
