Benromach Five Year Old is a youthful Speyside single malt that offers a transparent look at the modern Benromach spirit character. Despite its relatively short maturation in bourbon and Sherry casks, it exhibits a surprising maturity and structural focus. The aroma is bright and inviting, featuring fresh green apples, honey and a distinct trail of campfire smoke. On the palate the whisky is light to medium-bodied, displaying flavours of vanilla, malted biscuits and a touch of white pepper. The clean, balanced finish carries a persistent waxy smoke. This expression highlights the purity of the distillate and the effectiveness of the house peating levels.

The distillery operate one wash still and one spirit still and annual production is around half a million litres a year. Following a period of closure, the distillery was acquired by Gordon and MacPhail in the early 1990s and bottling resumed later the same decade, much to the delight of single malt enthusiasts. The spirit is generally peated to a slightly higher level than one would expect from a Speysider, around 8 - 12 ppm.

Limited editions and cask finishes have been central to Benromach's identity in recent years while the core range offers fantastic quality across the board.
