Château Belgrave is a Fifth Growth wine estate situated within the Haut-Médoc appellation. Since 1979 the estate has been in the expert hands of the Dourthe family, who made a significant investment in its infrastructure. This is the 2019 vintage of its flagship wine, a blend composed of 55% Merlot, 42% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Petit Verdot. The nose reveals wildflowers, tobacco leaves, plums, espresso, cassis and a touch of smoke. On the palate, the wine is fresh and juicy, brimming with dark and red berries and a spicy kick.

Vinous
The 2019 Belgrave has a backward, quite austere nose with plenty of tobacco and graphite scents that crowd out the fruit to its detriment. The palate is more outgoing with juicy red fruit and a countervailing bitter edge, but it doesn't quite kick on towards the finish and leaves you wanting more. The bottle from last year certainly showed better than this. Tasted blind at the Southwold annual tasting. Neal Martin1st February 2023
