Château Bélair – renamed Château Bélair-Monange in 2007 – combines the terroirs of the most privileged sites of Saint-Émilion. The 1982 vintage is a Merlot dominant, right-bank Bordeaux-blend. A mature, mineral wine with a pleasant intensity and length. On the palate, black fruits dominate, followed by mixed spices and an underlying sweetness.

Medium red. Roasted redcurrant and tobacco on the rather autumnal nose, plus a vaguely weedy element. Cool and dry-edged in the mouth; ultimately hollow.Stephen Tanzer1st July 2002
