Château Beausejour Duffau-Lagarrosse 2010 is a blend primarily comprising Merlot, complemented by Cabernet Franc and a touch of Cabernet Sauvignon. The grapes were harvested between 8th and 23rd October and the wine was matured for 16-18 months in 60% new oak barrels. The wine presents aromas of dark fruits, earthiness and subtle spice, with a structured palate and firm tannins that suggest a long ageing potential. Château Beausejour has a history of producing wines that reflect the unique terroir of Saint-Émilion.

Deep garnet colored, the nose of the 2010 Beausejour (Duffau Lagarrosse) is tiring, with signs of oxidation giving way to a core of plum pudding and balsamic with a waft of fried herbs. The full-bodied palate is laden with oak and chewy tannins, with a tart line and herbal-laced finish. While I felt this bottle was OK, there is the possibility that this could have been a random oxidized bottle, therefore I’ve used a question mark for the score. - Lisa Perrotti-Brown

Derenoncourt from 2009. Very dark crimson. Much lighter than the Villemaurine 2010 I have just tasted. Easy with much less of the exaggerated framework that characterises most of Stéphane Derenoncourt’s 2010s though it is a relatively tough wine. (JR)
