Beauregard 2016 is a red wine from the Pomerol appellation, primarily composed of Merlot and Cabernet Franc. This vintage benefits from the appellation`s clay-gravel soils. The vineyard spans 17.5 hectares and features vines with an average age of 35 years, with new plantings set at a high density of 9,200 vines per hectare. The winery has undergone significant renovation, now equipped with a gravity-flow vat cellar that includes 22 temperature-controlled concrete vats for precise vinification. Beauregard is noted for producing wines that reflect the unique characteristics of its terroir, marking it as a prominent estate in Pomerol.

The 2016 Beauregard is bestowed with intense black cherry and boysenberry fruit, melted tar and graphite notes coming through with aeration and becoming quite high-toned. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins. Fleshy but not deep, featuring nicely judged acidity, although the finish is straightforward and needs a little more personality to develop. It may have just shut down temporarily. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting. Neal Martin1st August 2020

Mid crimson. Heady, meaty nose. Lots of sweetness. Not too much alcohol. Nicely balanced without being excessive. Already quite round tannins. Hint of mint. Nice wine. (JR)
