Beaune Clos des Mouches Rouge Joseph Drouhin 2012 is a Pinot Noir produced from a historic vineyard in the Beaune region. The vineyard, notably the largest within Clos des Mouches, spans 14 hectares, with a mid-slope location offering optimal east/south-east exposure. The soil comprises clay, limestone and marl, contributing to the wine’s complexity. The 2012 vintage showcases characteristics typical of its terroir, reflecting the cooler growing season.
90 Vinous
(production here was just eight hectoliters per hectare, mostly due to hail, according to Frédéric Drouhin): Good medium red. Aromas of cherry, leather and musky underbrush. Very ripe, fat and full, showing a pronounced truffley underbrush character but little in the way of a hail taste. Strong dry extract and saline minerality nicely support the wine's alcohol. Dusty tannins call for some aging. Not a high-pitched, fruity style but very concentrated.
