Founded in 1880, Maison Joseph Drouhin owns vineyards in Chablis, Côte de Nuits, Côte de Beaune and Côte Chalonnaise, as well as in the Willamette Valley in Oregon. This release hails from Le Clos des Mouches, one of Beaune`s most highly respected Premier Cru vineyards where Drouhin owns a 14-hectare plot. 1999 was an exceptional vintage in Burgundy offering the rare combination of sufficient quantity and high quality.

Medium bright red. Fruit-driven aromas of raspberry and strawberry liqueur and smoky oak. Sweet and sappy, with lovely pure red berry flavors supported by firm underlying backbone. Finishes firmly tannic, tangy, sweet and long.Stephen Tanzer1st March 2002

Strawberries, raspberries, and jammy cherries can be found in the aromatics of the 1999 Beaune Clos Des Mouches. Medium-bodied and forward, it has a plummy, red and black fruit-flavored character. It is fresh, well-balanced, yet appears to be more forward than would be expected for a wine this young. Anticipated maturity: now-2005.
