Domaine de la Vougeraie stands as one of Burgundy`s foremost producers, boasting an impressive expanse of nearly 40 hectares of vineyards and a remarkable portfolio of over 30 diverse appellations, including six Grand Cru sites. Its foundation dates back to 1999 when wine entrepreneur Jean-Claude Boisset made the decision to consolidate all the vineyard holdings from his various négociant companies, marking the inception of this exceptional estate. The 2021 Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru is sourced from three distinct plots that together span 0.4 hectares, one of which is planted with 70-year-old vines. It is an opulent wine, characterized by rich flavours of ripe apples, toasted hazelnuts, orange peel, and subtle hints of anise.

The 2021 Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru is another that sports reduction, but here it seems more fixed and difficult to dislodge. It completely obscures the terroir expression. The palate is again very reductive and smothers the fruit, though the honeyed texture is quite alluring. However, it does miss some delineation and mineralité on the finish, rendering it rather generic compared to the best wines in this flight. Some oxidation in the glass, albeit not as severe as others. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting. Neal Martin8th October 2025

Located between the Côte de Nuits and the Côte de Beaune in Prémeaux, Domaine de la Vougeraie was founded by Jean-Claude Boisset in 1999. The name was inspired by domaine’s significant vineyard holdings in the village of Vougeot, which is also Boisset’s home.

One of Burgundy’s leading domaines, Vougeraie owns about 40ha of vineyard in more than 30 different appellations of Burgundy, including the Grands Crus of Clos Vougeot, Musigny, Bonnes-Mares, Charmes Chambertin, Mazoyères, Corton Clos du Roi and Corton Charlemagne. The domaine vineyards have been managed biodynamically since 2001. The highest possible production values and strictest levels of quality control, including a state-of-the-art sorting table, are maintained for the domaine’s entire range of wines. The domaine’s general manager, Sylvie Poillot, has managed the winemaking team since Pierre Vincent departed for Domaine Leflaive.
