Based in Prémeaux-Prissey, Domaine de la Vougeraie was formed in 1999 when wine entrepreneur Jean-Claude Boisset decided to consolidate all the vineyard holdings of his various négociant companies acquired over the years. With nearly 40 hectares of vineyard area and over 30 different appellations, Vougeraie is undoubtedly one of Burgundy’s leading estates. This release comes from the Grand Cru Bâtard-Montrachet, where the Domaine owns three separate plots, totalling 0.38 hectares. The wine was aged for 16 months in oak barrels [28% new] and for an additional 2 months in stainless steel tanks.

Vinous
The 2020 Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru has a burly, powerful nose, just a small reduction that seems to blow away with aeration. Honeysuckle and lanolin hints emerge with time, giving it a slightly more evolved bouquet. The palate is rich and honeyed, implying perhaps some premature oxidation, but rather, it is just made in a richer, sunnier style. It doesn't have close to the tension and detail of the best wines of the flight and falls below what I would expect from a Grand Cru. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.
