Ramonet Bâtard-Montrachet 2005 is a full-bodied Burgundy white wine from the Grand Cru climat of Bâtard-Montrachet in the Côte de Beaune. Based in Chassagne-Montrachet, Domaine Jean-Claude Ramonet is an acclaimed Burgundy estate producing some of Burgundy`s most highly regarded wines. Founded in the late 1920s by Pierre Ramonet, the domaine is currently run by Noël Ramonet and his brother Jean-Claude. Old vines and low yields form the foundation of Ramonet`s viticultural ethos, and vines younger than 18 years are not used in the top cuvées. On the 2005 Bâtard-Montrachet. "An exotic, indeed even tropical fruit nose is trimmed in ample wood toast that introduces rich, full, forward and sweet flavours that possess excellent depth and density yet perhaps not quite the elegance and precision that I`m used to seeing with this wine. To be sure, it could just be an early stage and that this will tighten up with time in bottle but it`s unusually accessible at present. The benefit of the doubt is offered as the track record is too good not to do so." Burghound, 2007

Ramonet’s 2005 Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru could not keep pace with the previous pair. I find it far too reductive on the nose, obfuscating the terroir expression. The palate dishes out more of the same, coming across very reduced and indicative of an incorrect SO2 addition. Maybe we were just unlucky with this bottle.Neal Martin1st March 2022
