Domaine Ramonet is undoubtedly one of the top producers of white wines in the Côte de Beaune. Established in the late 1920s by Pierre Ramonet, the estate is now run by Noël Ramonet and his brother Jean-Claude. This release comes from the Grand Cru Bâtard-Montrachet, where Ramonet owns approximately 0.6 hectares. The 2001 vintage reveals a powerful nose, combining yellow fruits, anise, mint, juicy pears and toasted aromas. On the palate, the wine has a huge presence, complex and deep, with notes of citrus fruit and crushed stones.

Brooding aromas of smoke, iodine and wintermint. Huge but initially folded in on itself; with aeration this grand cru showed great middle-palate fat and volume. Chewy and tactile yet almost magically round and smooth, with no hardness. Shows classic Montrachet peat, iodine and mineral extract, as well as superb inner-palate energy. May ultimately merit an even higher score.Stephen Tanzer1st September 2003
