Based in Puligny-Montrachet, Paul Pernot is a family-owned estate known for producing classic Burgundy wines with pristine fruit. Paul Pernot established the Domaine in 1959 with approximately 10 hectares, most of which had been in the family for many generations. Their Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru is one that receives consistently good reviews and the 2001 is no exception. The wine has a beautiful nose including hazelnuts, acacia, ripe peach, poached pear, baked apple and hints of limestone. The palate shows excellent depth and richness, with a polished texture and long finish.

Vinous
Deeper, more exotic aromas of apricot, nuts, clove and smoky oak. A step up in concentration of fruit and density from the Bienvenue. Impressively round and dense, with a rich, sweet flavor of ripe pineapple. Pernot's 2002 Batard is longer but not obviously stronger than this. The 2002 is more mentholated, backward and serious than this, notes Pernot, while the opposite is true for the two vintages of Bienvenue.Stephen Tanzer1st September 2003
