Lucien Le Moine is a micro-négoce founded in 1999 by Mounir and Rotem Saouma producing remarkably small quantities of exceptional quality wine solely from Premier and Grand Cru vineyards. The 2015 Bâtard-Montrachet is typically vibrant and rich yet exceptionally well-defined on the nose, offering up intense notes of pear, lemon flesh, tangerine oil, white flower blossom and crushed stones. On the palate it is full-bodied and powerful, with an excellent core of fruit, supremely classy mouthfeel and everything balanced by beautifully refreshing, citrussy acidity. Harmonious, long and complex on the finish, this should develop even further with time in bottle.
Vinous
(in barrel; 13.8% alcohol): Cloudy appearance. Very ripe scents of orange peel, lemon, pear drop and crushed rock; smells solid! Tactile and thick but with integrated lemony acidity leavening the wine's touch of creamy sweetness and accentuating its dusty rocky texture. Soil-driven, concentrated Bâtard but a bit less wild than usual for this cuvée. One feels the humidity of the soil here. A very classy, penetrating, fine-grained grand cru with a superb acid balance (actually 4.2 grams per liter) and outstanding rising length. An outstanding white Burgundy in the making.Stephen Tanzer1st September 2017

A Boutique Négociant

Founded by Mounir and Rotem Saouma in the late 1990s, Lucien Le Moine is a small, quality focussed négociant that bottle wines from some of the greatest Premier and Grand Cru vineyards in the Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune. The team aim to bottle around 100 barrels each vintage, which can sometimes represent over 60 different wines. There are no contracts with the growers and no winemaking requirements from Lucien Le Moine beyond the stipulation that the wines be of the highest possible quality.

The wines arrive with Lucien Le Moine fully vinified and Rotem and Mounir focus solely on élévage, racking the wines into new oak barrels made to their own particular specifications. It's tricky to generalise across dozens of wines from many different crus, but both the whites and reds tend towards the generous with a ripeness of fruit and a fullness of body that is rare in the Côte d'Or.
