Bâtard-Montrachet Leflaive 2012 is a full-bodied white Burgundy from one of the region`s prized Grands Crus. Produced from parcels in the Chassagne and Puligny sectors, the wine displays mild reduction on the nose, yet the underlying ripe fruit is present. Its broad-shouldered palate is marked by a notable finesse, distinguishing it from typical Bâtard expressions. The mouthfeel is rich, offering precision and focus. The finish is intense and long, reflecting the potential of the 2012 vintage.

(bottled in mid-May): Bright lemon-yellow. Deeper-pitched than the Pucelles, with nectarine and spice flavors complicated by leesy and smoky nuances. Big, rich and sweet, with peach and smoke flavors lifted by high notes of grapefruit and jasmine and enlivened by bracing acidity. Best today on the penetrating, rising finish, where the wine's grapefruit cut leaves the mouth refreshed. Great potential here, but in need of at least eight years of aging.Stephen Tanzer1st September 2014

The pinnacle of Puligny-Montrachet

Founded in the 18th century, Domaine Leflaive has built a storied reputation for its commitment to biodynamic farming and exceptional craftsmanship. The estate owns 22 hectares of vineyards, including 10 hectares of Premiers Crus in Puligny-Montrachet (Les Combettes, Les Pucelles, Le Clavoillon, Les Folatières), as well as no fewer than 5 hectares of Grands Crus (Chevalier-Montrachet, Bâtard-Montrachet, Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet, and a tiny holding in Le Montrachet).

Joseph Leflaive, whose vision and dedication in the early 20th century were pivotal, transformed the domaine into a symbol of excellence.
