Bâtard-Montrachet Henri Boillot 2023 is a Grand Cru white wine from the prestigious Montrachet climat. The vineyard benefits from a south-facing slope, allowing optimally ripe fruit to develop. The 2023 vintage, while warm, presents a structure marked by depth and tension. Extended maturation in oak casks contributes to a complex interplay of flavours, with a profile that will evolve significantly with time in the cellar.
Vinous
The 2023 Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru is a surprisingly delicate wine. Airy and understated, Boillot’s 2023 Batard whispers more than it screams. Delicate floral notes meld into a core of orchard fruit. This is a very pretty wine, but I find it a bit atypical in its restraint for both Bâtard and the generally richer style that is such a signature at this address.Antonio Galloni1st February 2025

Father and Son

In some ways, Henri Boillot has one foot in the past and one in the present. His family domaine, which he manages with his son Guillaume, has a history dating back to the 1880s, but the wines produced from their Meursault-based winery are undeniably modern, approachable and ranked among some of the very best in the region. Alongside operating a highly successful négociant business, the Boillot family own around 14 hectares of vineyards in the Côte de Beaune including a Puligny-Montrachet Premier Cru monopole in the form of Clos de la Mouchère.

The winery don't shy away from the use of new oak and any overtly woody character is generally well balanced by ripe fruit. The Chardonnays range from citrus driven and fresher at the villages level all the way to ripe, tropical and creamy at the Grand Cru level. The reds are lighter and more elegant than they used to be with Henri's son Guillaume preferring a less extracted style of Pinot Noir.
