Etienne Sauzet [1903-1075] founded his eponymous estate in Puligny-Montrachet during the first half of the 20th century. Several generations later, the prestigious domaine is today run by Benoit Riffault [brother of the Sancerre producer Stéphane Riffault] and his wife Emilie. This 2010 Bâtard-Montrachet comes from a 0.22 hectare. parcel of domaine-owned vines and it was aged in 50% new wood. It’s a perfectly balanced wine, delivering notes of lemon rind, white flowers and salty minerals, all wrapped by a layer of oak.

Vinous
(Boudot picked this fruit on the second day of the harvest to avoid surmaturite): Pale yellow. Aromatic nose combines peach and acacia flower. Sweet, dense and peachy, with powerful underlying structure and palate-staining fruit. Seems better balanced and higher in acidity than the 2011 version, which accentuates the impression of minerality. Superb Batard with a silky texture and a very long, brisk finish. Likely to be long-lived.Stephen Tanzer1st September 2012
