Etienne Sauzet owns and manages vineyard plots in some of the most esteemed terroirs in Puligny-Montrachet and neighbouring appellations. The Domaine was founded in the early 20th century by Etienne Sauzet and has been managed by several generations of the Sauzet family. This cuvée hails from the Grand Cru Bâtard-Montrachet, where Sauzet owns a 0.14-hectare plot. The weather during the 1996 vintage was characterized by a cool and dry summer, allowing the grapes to ripen slowly and develop good acidity.
94 Vinous
Brooding yet surprisingly delicate aroma of apple, pear and smoky, spicy oak. Then voluminous and powerful on the palate, with superb oily depths and authoritative structure. Almost painfully backward on the decisively dry, very strong aftertaste, which features a late burst of pineapple.Stephen Tanzer1st September 1998
