Domaine Leflaive Bâtard-Montrachet 2023 is a Grand Cru Burgundy Chardonnay from the Côte de Beaune. This iconic bottling comes from parcels across the Bâtard-Montrachet vineyard, where the heavier clay soils produce the most powerful and broad-shouldered white wine in the Leflaive cellar. The 2023 vintage offered a generous but balanced profile, resulting in a wine of immense textural depth and aromatic volume. The nose is a complex blend of yellow orchard fruit, honeysuckle and toasted almonds, underpinned by a discreet mineral streak. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and concentrated, displaying an iron fist in a velvet glove character with a persistent acidity that keeps the richness in check. It is a spectacular Chardonnay with a long, resonant finish.

The 2023 Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru has a little more intensity on the nose than the Bienvenue with touches of struck flint, cold stone and light Granny Smith scents that are tightly coiled and unfold with aeration. The palate is crisp and taut, much more mineral-driven than the Bienvenue with a really complex and persistent finish that is a joy to behold. This riveted me to the spot, and is one of the finest expressions of this holding that I have encountered in over 25 years of tasting at Leflaive. Neal Martin20th August 2025

The pinnacle of Puligny-Montrachet

Founded in the 18th century, Domaine Leflaive has built a storied reputation for its commitment to biodynamic farming and exceptional craftsmanship. The estate owns 22 hectares of vineyards, including 10 hectares of Premiers Crus in Puligny-Montrachet (Les Combettes, Les Pucelles, Le Clavoillon, Les Folatières), as well as no fewer than 5 hectares of Grands Crus (Chevalier-Montrachet, Bâtard-Montrachet, Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet, and a tiny holding in Le Montrachet).

Joseph Leflaive, whose vision and dedication in the early 20th century were pivotal, transformed the domaine into a symbol of excellence. In the 1990s, Anne-Claude Leflaive introduced biodynamic practices, adhering to rigorous standards that respect the natural rhythms of the earth, promoting soil health and vine vitality without synthetic chemicals. This holistic approach results in Chardonnay wines celebrated for their purity, depth, and complexity. Each bottle reflects the rich heritage and innovative spirit that have made Domaine Leflaive a revered name among wine enthusiasts.
