Situated in Puligny-Montrachet, Domaine Leflaive has been an advocate of biodynamic farming for more than two decades, leading the way as the trailblazer of biodynamic viticulture in Burgundy since the 1990s. This cuvée is sourced from four parcels of Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru that were planted between 1962 and 1989. The 2015 release is at the beginning of its drinking window, brilliantly showcasing the full potential of the vintage.
93 Vinous
Pale, bright yellow. Deeper-pitched on the nose than the Bienvenues-Bâtard and a bit reduced, offering aromas of ripe peach, smoke and minerals. Fat on entry, then powerful and unevolved in the middle palate, with strong pineappley acidity keeping the wine from coming off as heavy. Finishes adamantly dry and firm, with a dusty tannic quality and a note of menthol. This wine is evolving very slowly and will need serious cellaring.Stephen Tanzer1st September 2017

Domaine Leflaive

The pinnacle of Puligny-Montrachet

Founded in the 18th century, Domaine Leflaive has built a storied reputation for its commitment to biodynamic farming and exceptional craftsmanship. The estate owns 22 hectares of vineyards, including 10 hectares of Premiers Crus in Puligny-Montrachet (Les Combettes, Les Pucelles, Le Clavoillon, Les Folatières), as well as no fewer than 5 hectares of Grands Crus (Chevalier-Montrachet, Bâtard-Montrachet, Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet, and a tiny holding in Le Montrachet).

Joseph Leflaive, whose vision and dedication in the early 20th century were pivotal, transformed the domaine into a symbol of excellence. In the 1990s, Anne-Claude Leflaive introduced biodynamic practices, adhering to rigorous standards that respect the natural rhythms of the earth, promoting soil health and vine vitality without synthetic chemicals. This holistic approach results in Chardonnay wines celebrated for their purity, depth, and complexity. Each bottle reflects the rich heritage and innovative spirit that have made Domaine Leflaive a revered name among wine enthusiasts.
