Based in Dezize-lès-Maranges, Domaine Bachelet-Monnot is relatively new wine producer, set up by Marc and Alexandre Bachelet in 2005. The two brothers are descended from a long-line of local winemakers and together they cultivate a mix of family-owned and leased vineyards. This release hails from the Grand Cru Bâtard-Montrachet, where they own a tiny plot. The 2021 vintage was a good one for white Burgundy, so the wine has the potential to age for many years to come.
Vinous
The 2021 Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru, which is one of the first picked to capture the acidity, comprises just one barrel this year (one year old). It has a very intense bouquet, quite mineral-driven with limestone and sea spray scents, just a subtle reduction on the background. The palate has exquisite balance, fresh on the entry, rather deep with plenty of substance and slightly pithy towards the finish. There is a lot in this Bâtard-Montrachet, and it has impressive persistence. This is one of the standouts from the Grand Cru in this traumatic season - some achievement. Neal Martin5th January 2023

Rising Stars

Founded by rising stars Marc and Alexandre Bachelet in 2005, Domaine Bachelet Monnot manage 10 hectares of vines in the communes in Maranges, Santenay and Puligny-Montrachet. The focus is on traditional techniques, terroir-led winemaking - 50% new oak is used for Grand Cru wines, but employed to a lesser extent for Premier Cru and Village-level wines.

Key vineyards for Bachelet Monnot in Maranges are La Fussière, which they produce in both red and white, and Clos de la Boutière. In Puligny-Montrachet, Marc and Alexandre produce Premier Crus Les Referts and Folatières along with Grand Crus Bienvenues-Bâtard Montrachet and Bâtard-Montrachet.
