Bachelet-Monnot was founded in 2005 by brothers Alex and Mark Bachelet and, in a relatively short space of time, they have cemented their reputation as two of Burgundy’s finest talents. Their Bâtard-Montrachet is sourced from 30+ year old vines, fermented with indigenous yeasts in 350-litre and 700-litre barrels, and aged for 12 months in barrel before 6 months in tank prior to release. 2018 was a stunning vintage and this is an incredibly complex yet refined wine that offering a wonderfully concentrated core of fruit, beautiful aromatic nuance, pulsating energy and an exceptionally long, detailed finish.

The 2018 Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru sees no new oak and is aged instead in one and two-year-old 350-litre barrels. It has a gorgeous bouquet with lemon curd, nectarine and crushed rock aromas, very seductive even at this premature stage. The palate is well balanced with a saline entry, fresh and crisp with an almost graphite tinged finish. So much nervosité is coiled up in this Bâtard - it will give 20-30 years of drinking pleasure. The focus is on traditional techniques, terroir-led winemaking - 50% new oak is used for Grand Cru wines, but employed to a lesser extent for Premier Cru and Village-level wines.

Key vineyards for Bachelet Monnot in Maranges are La Fussière, which they produce in both red and white, and Clos de la Boutière. In Puligny-Montrachet, Marc and Alexandre produce Premier Crus Les Referts and Folatières along with Grand Crus Bienvenues-Bâtard Montrachet and Bâtard-Montrachet.
