Paolo Scavino Barolo Rocche dell`Annunziata Riserva 1990 is a mature-vintage, single-vineyard Barolo red wine from the Piedmont region of northern Italy. Enrico Scavino has for decades been a tireless seeker of refinement of his family`s wines, even designing a bespoke fermentation vessel used exclusively for his Barolos. Each of the family`s Barolo vineyard parcels is vinified separately, allowing them the greatest possible control over the final wine. Enrico is now supported in the running of the business by his daughters Elisa and Enrica. This 1990 riserva is from the prized Rocche dell`Annunziata vineyard in the cru of La Morra. Producer note. "Rocche dell’Annunziata is all about finesse, details, weightless elegance. It’s a symphony of ethereal aromas with harmonic motions. Rose petals, violet, lilac, tar, sweet red cherries, mint, minerals are some of the hallmarks of this beautiful cru. In the texture silk veils, layers that overlap with extraordinary grace yet offering intensity."

Enrico Scavino’s 1990 Barolo Riserva Rocche dell’Annunziata (magnum), here in its first vintage, is a great example of the modern school of Barolo. Silky tannins frame a core of expressive red berries, crushed flowers and sweet spices. As outstanding as this magnum is, it doesn’t quite reach the heights of a magnum I tasted a few months ago, and both were from the same case. Sometimes, that’s just the way it goes. - Antonio Galloni
