Owned by the Antinori family, the Prunotto estate is located in Alba. The Colonnello vineyard is a prized 1ha plot in the Monforte d’Alba township. The nose is delicately attractive with notes of rose petals, raspberries, pomegranate and balsam herb. The palate is intense with excellent concentration, sweet tannins and a long, mineral-tinged finish.

The 2013 Barolo Riserva Bussia Vigna Colonnello is an attractive and decidedly exotic wine. Hard candy, kirsch, wild flowers, and sweet spice give the 2013 striking inner perfume. I find a slight element of sweetness distracting and also out of character with the personality of the year, but, at the same time, there is no question the 2013 represents a significant improvement over some of the earlier vintages of this wine.
