Prunotto Barolo Riserva Bussia Vigna Colonnello 2011 is a prestigious Piedmontese red wine from a small, historic parcel within the Bussia cru of Monforte d`Alba. This Riserva was matured for 18 months in large oak casks and a further 48 months in bottle, resulting in a complex profile of Marasca cherries, dried herbs and new leather. The 2011 vintage was warmer, lending the wine an approachable, supple texture and "enveloping" tannins while maintaining a core of floral elegance. It is a structured and polished Barolo, noted for its long, persistent finish and a balance of fruit and savoury spice.

The Barolo Riserva Bussia Vigna Colonnello has a very distinctive herbal/medicinal quality to it. Dried herbs, star anise, mint, and dried cherry are nicely delineated, but the more vegetal notes hare are a bit distracting. The 2011 has come together nicely over the last few years, but it is still a very quirky wine.Antonio Galloni1st October 2017
