GB Burlotto Barolo Monvigliero 2010 is a full-bodied, single-vineyard Nebbiolo red wine from the Barolo appellation of northern Italy. Founded by Giovan Battista Burlutto in 1850, GB Burlotto is a renowned Bartolo producer based in the commune of Verduno. Founder Commandatore Burlotto pioneered various new winemaking techniques in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, including longer macerations and larger oak casks for ageing. The wines of the property are much sought-after and renowned for their elegance, balance and ageability. This is a 100% Nebbiolo from vines grown across 2.02ha in Monvigliero. The vineyard is situated in the northern part of the Barolo area, not far from the Tanaro river. The wine is matured in Slavonian and Allier oak barrels for about three years. "From the most celebrated vineyard in the village of Verduno, this dazzling wine opens with an enticing bouquet of exotic incense, violet, cedar, leather, moist earth, pine forest and a whiff of smoke. The focused palate delivers layers of dark cherry, clove, cinnamon, thyme, balsamic notes and mineral alongside supple tannins. It`s incredibly elegant." Wine Enthusiast, 2014

The 2010 Barolo Monvigliero is as reticent as it is beautiful. With time in the glass, some of the aromas and flavors start to release, but the 2010 is mostly a wine of texture at this stage. Whereas the 2009 was open and resonant, the 2010 is a wine that demands the taster's full attention. Bright red berries, mint, spices and crushed rocks are some of the many notes that flow through to the chiseled finish. Hints of iron, savory herbs, tar and game add to this super-distinctive Barolo.Antonio Galloni1st January 2014
