Roberto Voerzio Barolo Cerequio 1997 is a full-bodied Nebbiolo from one of Barolo’s most esteemed vineyards. Situated in La Morra, Cerequio is a prized south- and southeast-facing site, known for yielding wines that balance power, structure, and elegance. Roberto Voerzio, a master of meticulous vineyard management, is renowned for his low-yield philosophy, ensuring concentration and precision in every bottle. The 1997 vintage was marked by a warm, dry growing season, producing rich, expressive wines with ripe red fruit, floral notes, and hints of spice. Aged in oak barriques, followed by time in stainless steel and bottle, this Cerequio Barolo showcases fine-grained tannins, vibrant acidity, and impressive ageing potential, making it a standout expression of this exceptional year.
95 Vinous
Deep ruby-red. Wild, gamey aromas of roasted currant and truffle; liqueur-like but not at all hot. Great sweetness balanced by lively vinosity; conveys an impression of sound acidity. Classy, well-delineated wine, showing no sign of its elevated alcohol. Seamless, even tannins are completely hidden beneath the wine extraordinary fat.
92 Robert Parker
The paradoxical 1997 Barolo Cerequio possesses exquisite purity as well as an open-knit bouquet, but restrained, tannic, forceful, backward flavors. Dense and rich, with the vintage`s thickness well-displayed, it will be at its best between 2005-2020. - Robert M. Parker, Jr.
17.5 Jancis Robinson
La Morra. Extremely heady, perfumed wine with exotic, beguiling topnotes followed by an impressive combination of rich, layered fruit and extremely stern tannins. This is a more serious cellaring candidate than La Serra tasted at the same time although shares its arresting appeal. Delicious wine, though never cheap. (JR)
