Barolo Bricco Bussia Vigna Cicala Aldo Conterno Magnum 1989 is a notable wine from one of Barolo`s esteemed producers, known for upholding traditional winemaking practices. This vintage exhibits a complex profile marked by earthy undertones and ripe fruit notes, including cherry and plum, alongside hints of tar. The structure is formidable, characterised by pronounced tannins and considerable extraction. Ideal for cellaring, it may benefit from several years of maturation, with potential longevity beyond 25 years in optimal conditions. Aldo Conterno’s estate has been a family-run venture since the late 19th century, reflecting generations of expertise.

After tasting the 1989 Bussia earlier this year, I was curious to check in on the Cicala. The Cicala is Aldo Conterno's most masculine Barolo, as the soils here are extremely poor, and thus yield wines of great structure. The wine is dark ruby in color, with no signs whatsoever of age. The wine is rich and decadent, with generous flavors of dark cherries, spices, tar, and plenty of tannins. The Cicala appears to still very young and in need of further cellaring.
