Bartolo Mascarello Barolo 2010 is a full-bodied Nebbiolo red wine from the Barolo appellation of Piedmont, northern Italy. Bartolo Mascarello is among the pantheon of great traditional Barolo winemakers. A firm traditionalist, he made just one blended Barolo wine, despite having vineyards in such prized crus as Cannubi and Rocche di La Morra. Natural fermentation without temperature control in cement vats was followed by long maturation in traditional oak botti. His wines were always intended to be an honest reflection of a single vintage. The 2010 is available here in magnum format. "Still embryonic, Mascarello’s 2010 Barolo (magnum) shows all the classicism it did when I first tasted it from cask many years ago. There is a feeling of crystalline purity and translucence here that is simply captivating. This is Nebbiolo and Barolo in all its glory in what has turned out to be an epic vintage for the estate. Time in the glass brings out scents of lavender, dried flowers and dark fruit, all wrapped together by huge swaths of tannin. Readers lucky enough to own the 2010 are in for a tremendous treat."
