Crafted by one of Piedmont`s leading winemakers, the 2020 Barbera d`Alba Vigna Francia emanates elegance and distinction. On the nose, the wine unveils a lavish bouquet of blossoms and minerals, accompanied by hints of lavender and forest fruit preserves. The palate is marked by freshness, harmonious balance, and a subtle savoury character, accentuated by an intriguing essence of crushed stones. While delightful in its youth, the true potential of this wine will unfurl with time. Consider stowing it away in the cellar for a few more years to witness its full expression and evolution.

The 2020 Barbera d'Alba Vigna Francia is fabulous. Rich and expansive, with tremendous presence, the 2020 is positively stellar. Super-ripe dark cherry, lavender, spice and pomegranate all gain volume and intensity with time in the glass. The 2020 is one of the finest recent editions of the Francia Barbera I can remember tasting. Today, it's explosive, heady personality is impossible to resist. Antonio Galloni6th December 2022

Time and Tradition

Founded in the 1920s, Giacomo Conterno is an iconic Piedmont estate currently owned and operated by Roberto, grandson of winery founder and namesake. Giacomo was assisted by his brother Aldo Conterno for many years before Aldo left to establish his own eponymous winery, pursuing a different style of winemaking altogether.

Along with Gaja and Bruno Giacosa, the winery is considered to be one of the premier producers of fine Barolo. Cascina Francia and Monfortino (only made in select vintages and aged for up to seven years before release) are Conterno's top wines when it comes to Nebbiolo, but the team also make excellent Barbera a'Alba. The Nebbiolo are traditional expressions of the Piedmont terroir in many ways - long-lived and earthy with an elegant savoury character to match alluring ripe red and black fruit notes.
