To create the much-anticipated The Balvenie Tun 1509 Batch No. 3 – which will be limited to just 8,850 bottles worldwide – Malt Master David C. Stewart MBE drew on his extensive knowledge and expertly hand-selected 31 of the finest casks from the distillery’s precious aged whisky stocks. He used 12 sherry butts distilled between 1989 and 1992, 11 American oak hogsheads distilled in 1989 and eight refill American Oak butts distilled in 1992 and 1993.

One of Speyside's most famous single malts, located in Dufftown and owned by William Grant and Sons. The distillery was founded in the late 1800s by William Grant, who worked at the Mortlach distillery nearby. Master Distiller David Stewart is credited with making Balvenie the powerhouse we know today.
David worked at Balvenie for many decades and introduced many innovations that are now widespread across the industry including 'cask finishes' where whiskies are aged for a period in ex-Bourbon wood before being finished for a relative short period in a more active barrel.
