Balvenie Tun 1401 Batch 9 is a Speyside single malt crafted by marrying 11 traditional whisky casks with three Sherry butts in the distillery’s historic Tun 1401. Under the guidance of Master Blender David Stewart, this expression features a natural strength of 49.3% alcohol. The long maturation process in the tun facilitates the integration of various aged stocks, resulting in a unified profile. The nose reveals dark fruits, liquid honey and baking spices. The palate showcases a velvety texture, with notes that develop into citrus peel and toasted oak, creating a complex finish.

One of Speyside's most famous single malts, located in Dufftown and owned by William Grant and Sons. The distillery was founded in the late 1800s by William Grant, who worked at the Mortlach distillery nearby. Master Distiller David Stewart is credited with making Balvenie the powerhouse we know today.
David worked at Balvenie for many decades and introduced many innovations that are now widespread across the industry including 'cask finishes' where whiskies are aged for a period in ex-Bourbon wood before being finished for a relative short period in a more active barrel.
