Balvenie Single Barrel 15 Year Old 1980 is a Speyside single malt whisky distilled in Dufftown on 16 October 1980. This expression originates from bourbon barrel 13569 and was bottled on 07 May 1996 at a natural cask strength of 50.4%. David Stewart selected this specific cask to represent the distillery`s pure house style before the range transitioned towards a primary focus on Sherry wood. Maturation in traditional American oak preserves the essential honeyed malt character and barley sugar sweetness. The palate delivers vanilla, cereal and lemon notes without the tannic weight of European oak. Each of the 300 bottles is hand-numbered and non-chill filtered to maintain the oil-rich texture characteristic of 1980s distillations.

Crafted with Care

One of Speyside's most famous single malts, located in Dufftown and owned by William Grant and Sons. The distillery was founded in the late 1800s by William Grant, who worked at the Mortlach distillery nearby. Master Distiller David Stewart is credited with making Balvenie the powerhouse we know today.

David worked at Balvenie for many decades and introduced many innovations that are now widespread across the industry including 'cask finishes' where whiskies are aged for a period in ex-Bourbon wood before being finished for a relative short period in a more active barrel.
