Balvenie Port Wood 1989 is a 15 Year Old Speyside single malt whisky, crafted at The Balvenie Distillery, known for its traditional craftsmanship since 1892. This expression begins its maturation in classic oak casks before being finished in Port pipes, a technique that contributes to its complex profile. Tasting notes reveal an interplay of ginger, dried fruits and damsons, layered over the distillery’s hallmark honey and vanilla undertones. The whisky exhibits a velvety mouthfeel complemented by a prominent acidity, enhancing its persistence on the palate.

One of Speyside's most famous single malts, located in Dufftown and owned by William Grant and Sons. The distillery was founded in the late 1800s by William Grant, who worked at the Mortlach distillery nearby. Master Distiller David Stewart is credited with making Balvenie the powerhouse we know today.
David worked at Balvenie for many decades and introduced many innovations that are now widespread across the industry including 'cask finishes' where whiskies are aged for a period in ex-Bourbon wood before being finished for a relative short period in a more active barrel.
