Balvenie 23 Year Old DCS Compendium Chapter #3 1993 is a notable expression in the distillery`s rich heritage, released to commemorate malt master David Stewart`s half-century tenure. This whisky was matured in a refill American-oak hogshead, showcasing a significant chapter in Balvenie’s history, as 1993 marked the debut of the `DoubleWood` label. The offering reflects the distillery`s characteristic honeyed profile, presenting a subtle complexity befitting its age. Balvenie continues to be one of the few distilleries that maintains its own malting floor.

One of Speyside's most famous single malts, located in Dufftown and owned by William Grant and Sons. The distillery was founded in the late 1800s by William Grant, who worked at the Mortlach distillery nearby. Master Distiller David Stewart is credited with making Balvenie the powerhouse we know today.

David worked at Balvenie for many decades and introduced many innovations that are now widespread across the industry including 'cask finishes' where whiskies are aged for a period in ex-Bourbon wood before being finished for a relative short period in a more active barrel.
