Founded in 1892, Balvenie is known for its range of expressions finished in a variety of wood types including Port, rum and Madeira oak. This particular expression was matured in traditional oak casks before spending a second period of maturation in rum casks shipped from Jamaica. The nose combines fruit and floral aromas, such as lavender, orange peel and coconut shavings. On the palate, expect notes of sweet vanilla complemented by a sprinkle of cinnamon and toasty oak.

One of Speyside's most famous single malts, located in Dufftown and owned by William Grant and Sons. The distillery was founded in the late 1800s by William Grant, who worked at the Mortlach distillery nearby. Master Distiller David Stewart is credited with making Balvenie the powerhouse we know today.
David worked at Balvenie for many decades and introduced many innovations that are now widespread across the industry including 'cask finishes' where whiskies are aged for a period in ex-Bourbon wood before being finished for a relative short period in a more active barrel.
