Avonside Glenlivet 39 Year Old 1938 is a Speyside single malt whisky, distilled in 1938 and aged for 39 years. This release reflects a time when the distillery utilised traditional floor maltings and copper stills, contributing to its complexity. The aroma presents beeswax, rancio of tropical fruit, hints of soft wood smoke, and nuances of antique furniture. The extended maturation in high-quality oak barrels delivers a structure that maintains vitality, complemented by a silky mouthfeel. This expression is a rare snapshot of distillation practices pre-Second World War and exemplifies the profound intricacies inherent to Glenlivet`s production methods during that era.

A Classic Speyside

Glenlivet was the first Speyside in distillery to be granted a license after the passing of the excise act in 1823. Founded by George Smith, the distillery has become synonymous with a softer, gentler style of single malt and one of Scotland's best selling whiskies. Beyond the reliable core range that features a 12 year old, 15 year old, 18 year old and a number of non-age-statement cask finishes, Glenlivet is famous for the venerable old drams released under the "Cellar Collection" series.

The distillery was purchased by Pernod Ricard in 2001 and currently produces over 10 millions litres of new-make spirit a year. The team operate six stills and eight washbacks, installed as part of a renovation project that was completed in 2010.
