Ausone 600cl 2012 is a notable representation of the Saint-Émilion terroir, produced by Château Ausone, a historic estate dating back to Roman times. This wine is crafted from a blend of Cabernet Franc and Merlot, showcasing the unique characteristics of each varietal. The 2012 vintage is distinguished by its concentration and structure, offering a palate that reflects the estate`s commitment to meticulous vineyard practices. With limited production of around 20,000 bottles, Ausone remains a sought-after choice for discerning collectors and connoisseurs alike.

One of the wines of the vintage, the 2012 Ausone boasts gorgeous depth, aromatic intensity and overall balance. Dark red stone fruits, menthol, licorice, smoke and savory herbs flesh out as this layered, seductive Saint-Emilion shows off its pure pedigree and class. Further time in bottle should allow the 2012 to flesh out even more, but it is pretty special today. I remember tasting the 2012 straight from barrel with Alain Vauthier in the spring of 2013. The bottled, finished wine is every bit as special. The blend is 55% Cabernet Franc and 45% Merlot. Antonio Galloni1st January 2016

Ruby colour, rose edging, smoked sandalwood and sweet black cherry, with a subtle build of power and concentration through the palate. This has juice and finesse, with edges of tobacco and rose petals, and a sharper nuance of fresh mint leaf. At a great moment to begin drinking, but has decades ahead. 100% new oak. A late harvest between October 9 and 17.Jane Anson29th June 2022

Chateau Ausone

An Historic Saint-Émilion Estate

Named after the Roman poet Ausonius, who kept around 100 acres of vineyards in and around the area, Château Ausone is one of only four wines to be ranked Premier Grand Cru Classé A in the classification of Saint-Émilion wine. The winery is located on the Right Bank, close to the actual town of Saint-Émilion in Bordeaux. The smallest of the First Growths - with only seven hecatres of vines - 10% of which goes into producing the second wine, La Chapelle d'Ausone.

With its characteristic fresh limestone soils, Château Ausone produces wonderfully mineral red wines, all farmed organically. The key grape varieties are Cabernet Franc and Merlot, with smaller percentages of Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot also planted.
