Aubert UV-SL Chardonnay 2012 is a notable example from one of California`s esteemed producers, Aubert Wines, known for their meticulous attention to detail and low yields. This Chardonnay reveals a blend of citrus and stone fruit aromas, complemented by subtle oak characteristics. On the palate, it offers a balanced acidity, with layers of complexity developing through a long finish. Aubert Wines crafts their selections from carefully chosen vineyard sites, ensuring a reflection of the terroir in every bottle. Described by Aubert as "the chameleon”, this wine brings out the different aspects of the vineyard, evolving with each sip.

Aubert's 2012 Chardonnay UV-SL Vineyard, from a site owned by vineyard guru Ulises Valdez, is superb. Apricot, honey, mint, nectarine, butter and white truffles flesh out in the glass. The flavors are remarkably vivid and nuanced, with tons of richness and intensity, but no sense of heaviness. Here, too, the oak is 100% new. Bright veins of underlying salinity and minerality become more prominent over time, adding to the wine's energy and vivid personality. Aubert fans will want to jump all over the UV-SL.Antonio Galloni1st February 2014

Sublime Pinot Noir and Chardonnay

Aubert was founded by Mark and Theresa Aubert in 2000, located on the famous Silverado trail in Calistoga. Before he and his partner opened Aubert, Mark had gained experience at the Peter Michael Winery and Colgin Cellars and also made wine at a 'custom crush' facility in California. Aubert have some proprietary vineyards, around three and half acres in Sonoma, which they bottle under the 'UV' label. The remainder of the fruit is sourced from selected vineyards across Sonoma and Napa.

In the world of wine, Aubert is really a byword for world-class single vineyard or single block Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The vineyards they source from represent a mix of terroirs and include some old vines as well as some recent plantings. What remains consistent through all these bottlings is the preservation of fruit character and an extreme obsession with quality.
