Aubert Sugar Shack Estate Chardonnay 2013 showcases a meticulous expression of terroir from the Rutherford appellation. The wine presents a structured profile with nuanced notes of ripe stone fruit, citrus zest, and subtle oak. Mark Aubert, a notable figure in Californian winemaking, established his reputation through rigorous attention to detail, studying under esteemed producers like Peter Michael. This Chardonnay reflects his dedication to crafting wines that exhibit both depth and clarity, making it a distinctive offering for connoisseurs seeking authenticity.

Rich, round and creamy, the 2013 Chardonnay Sugar Shack is all about texture. The Sugar Shack emerges from a parcel in Rutherford next to Aubert's home. Lemon curd, mint, wild flowers, apricot pit, Chamomile and lightly honeyed notes flesh out on the super-expressive, nuanced finish. This is one of the more complete wines in a lineup of impressive Chardonnays. The Montrachet clone works wonders on this site, which sits adjacent to Dana. Antonio Galloni1st January 2015

Sublime Pinot Noir and Chardonnay

Aubert was founded by Mark and Theresa Aubert in 2000, located on the famous Silverado trail in Calistoga. Before he and his partner opened Aubert, Mark had gained experience at the Peter Michael Winery and Colgin Cellars and also made wine at a 'custom crush' facility in California. Aubert have some proprietary vineyards, around three and half acres in Sonoma, which they bottle under the 'UV' label. The remainder of the fruit is sourced from selected vineyards across Sonoma and Napa.

In the world of wine, Aubert is really a byword for world-class single vineyard or single block Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The vineyards they source from represent a mix of terroirs and include some old vines as well as some recent plantings. What remains consistent through all these bottlings is the preservation of fruit character and an extreme obsession with quality.
