Aubert Ritchie Chardonnay 2005 is a full-bodied, barrel-fermented white wine from the Sonoma Coast of California. Crafted by winemaker Mark Aubert, known for his meticulous approach, this Chardonnay showcases the influence of the region`s diverse terroir. The wine is produced from old Wente clones, celebrated for their ability to impart complexity. The 2005 vintage reflects ripe fruit characteristics while balancing acidity. Aubert stands out in the industry for his dedication to small-scale winemaking, striving for precision and quality in every bottle. Ideal for those looking to appreciate nuanced Californian Chardonnay.

It's interesting to taste the 2005 Chardonnay Ritchie Vineyard next to the Lauren. Here the flavors are quite a bit more mineral-driven, with plenty of graphite and crushed notes. Hints of orange peel and white truffles add the final layers of nuance. The 2005 Ritchie is a bit more forward than the Lauren, and has also aged with a bit less overall finesse, but that is a pretty small critique at this level. Antonio Galloni1st January 2015

Sublime Pinot Noir and Chardonnay

Aubert was founded by Mark and Theresa Aubert in 2000, located on the famous Silverado trail in Calistoga. Before he and his partner opened Aubert, Mark had gained experience at the Peter Michael Winery and Colgin Cellars and also made wine at a 'custom crush' facility in California. Aubert have some proprietary vineyards, around three and half acres in Sonoma, which they bottle under the 'UV' label. The remainder of the fruit is sourced from selected vineyards across Sonoma and Napa.

In the world of wine, Aubert is really a byword for world-class single vineyard or single block Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The vineyards they source from represent a mix of terroirs and include some old vines as well as some recent plantings. What remains consistent through all these bottlings is the preservation of fruit character and an extreme obsession with quality.
