The Aubert Lauren Chardonnay 2007 is a mature white wine that originates from the esteemed Lauren Vineyard in Forestville. Known for its gravelly Goldridge soil, this site is pivotal in crafting Chardonnay with distinct character. The wine presents a vibrant lemon-gold hue and an aromatic profile that hints at earthy crushed rocks and damp soil, transitioning into notes of apricot preserves, pear tart and almond croissant. The palate is full-bodied, exhibiting an oily texture and a spicy character, culminating in a long, complex finish, showcasing the potential of proper cellar ageing.

Palish green-yellow. Intriguing aromas of white peach, green tea, pear, nectarine, spices and minerals. Dense and powerful, but the flavors of nectarine and minerals are kept fresh by a green-appley acidity and a minty nuance. I find this stony, flinty wine a bit youthfully musclebound today. The slightly dry-edged finish features good spicy lift and a suggestion of butterscotch.Stephen Tanzer1st May 2008

Aubert

Sublime Pinot Noir and Chardonnay

Aubert was founded by Mark and Theresa Aubert in 2000, located on the famous Silverado trail in Calistoga. Before he and his partner opened Aubert, Mark had gained experience at the Peter Michael Winery and Colgin Cellars and also made wine at a 'custom crush' facility in California. Aubert have some proprietary vineyards, around three and half acres in Sonoma, which they bottle under the 'UV' label. The remainder of the fruit is sourced from selected vineyards across Sonoma and Napa.

In the world of wine, Aubert is really a byword for world-class single vineyard or single block Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The vineyards they source from represent a mix of terroirs and include some old vines as well as some recent plantings. What remains consistent through all these bottlings is the preservation of fruit character and an extreme obsession with quality.
